My Gut Health Essentials
Lately all I’ve been hearing about is ‘gut health’. In order to have a ‘healthy gut’ you need to have enough ‘good bacteria’ in your body to keep your GI system functioning. There are many ways to increase the ‘good bacteria’ in your gut, and a great way to do so is by adding probiotic foods to your diet and/or taking a daily probiotic. Probiotics are live microorganisms that help to balance intestinal microbiomes and scientific research has shown they may benefit your health. Probiotics are good for your health because they help to maintain a healthy balance of your microbiomes, which support ‘good bacteria’ growth. Probiotics help to support oral, skin and digestive health as well.
I truly believe that good health starts with consuming the right foods. Therefore, I’m going to break down what I do on a daily basis to increase the good bacteria in my gut:
Take a daily probiotic: Every morning I wake up and drink a warm water with lemon, apple cider vinegar, cayenne pepper and raw manuka honey. Following this drink I take a probiotic. I recently tried Nubiopro which is a high quality, scientific-based, safe and effective probiotic. The blend of probiotics contains 9 different strains of good bacteria. It is so easy to take because it dissolves easily on your tongue. Also, it doesn’t contain any processed sugars or nuts and is gluten-free and dairy-free. I truly have become more regular since taking this probiotic and my stomach has never felt better! Another amazing result is noticeably better skin and nails. People have even commented on my skin lately telling me it’s never been clearer and that I’m glowing 🙂
Drink a kombucha: I recently got into the habit of drinking a kombucha with my lunch, or just sipping on it throughout the afternoon. Kombucha is a probiotic beverage that has many benefits such as improved digestion, fighting harmful yeast overgrowth, increases mental clarity and stabilizes your mood. Drinking kombucha helps to aid digestion and promotes a healthy gut because it’s naturally fermented with a living colony of bacteria and yeast.
Eat fermented foods: I try to add fermented foods such as sauerkraut (which is made by fermenting cabbage) and kimchi (also made from fermented cabbage) to my diet. Another fermented food I consume is kefir. Fermented foods are so good for you because fermenting is a process that preserves foods by introducing bacteria to break down certain parts of the food. This process not only preserves the food, but also boosts its nutrients, enzymes and probiotics. Not only do fermented vegetables provide you probiotic and enzymatic benefits, they also boost vitamin content and help your gut to absorb those vitamins even better.
