How I destress after a long day
Now more than ever I treasure my alone time at night after I put the kids to bed. There are no breaks throughout the day and I’ve now had both kids home for about 5 months (Emma used to go to preschool 5 days per week). It’s a constant juggle of taking care of / playing with the kids, devoting as much time to this blog as possible, squeezing in a workout, cooking, cleaning, laundry and all the other daily household tasks. After the kids go to bed (8pm) I tie up any loose ends from the day and always like to have my house in order. Then I can truly focus on myself and CHILL OUT!
Here are some of my favorite ways to chill out after a busy day:
Have a spa night at home. I have made this a weekly ritual (usually Sunday evenings). I dry brush (helps to detoxify) and then I take a long bath (with the Flower Bath soak from Primally Pure) or also love taking an epsom salt bath (helps with sore muscles). I light a candle, sip on some decaf tea or a turmeric latte and zen out. After the bath it’s time for my robe & slippers + a face mask. There are so many face masks that I love, but here are a few of my favorites: this Jet Lag Mask, Sea Kale Clay Mask, Brightening Enzyme Peel, and this Organic Chlorophyll Mask.
CBD!! I love CURED Nutrition ‘Zen’ at night before going to bed. It’s a combination of CBD and mushrooms that promote relaxation and alleviate stress. It fully relaxes me and promotes a long, deep sleep (it doesn’t make you high – there’s no THC). There’s no ‘hangover’ the next morning. I wake up feeling refreshed after a quality night of sleep. Code LEAH gets you a discount off any of their CBD products.
Stretching or restorative yoga. Sometimes I do a quick 10 minute stretch routine. My legs ache after running after the kids all day and this really helps. If I have more time I do a 30 minute – 1 hour online restorative yoga class. It’s completely calm and gentle and really helps me calm down and relax. Obe Fitness offers some amazing online stretching classes as well as wind-down / restorative yoga. Code leahmonth gets you a free month 🙂
Other than the above I always take a long, hot shower every single night. It really helps relax me and ‘wash the day away’. After the shower I always do my skincare routine: toner, serum and face oil.
I know they say not to watch TV before bed, but it doesn’t interfere with me falling asleep. It actually really relaxes me and I often fall asleep watching TV.
I’m not the biggest reader (hate admitting that, but it’s the truth). However, my goal is to get into some good books and read before bed. That’s definitely one of the most relaxing things you can do!!
Soft, cozy pajamas always help too 🙂
