As many of you are aware, I’m still exclusively breastfeeding my almost 8-month-old daughter, Jordyn. I also breastfed my first daughter, Emma, until she was 15 months old.

Breastfeeding has been challenging (had completely different challenges with each kid that I will address in a separate post), but has been the most rewarding thing I have ever done. One of the most commonly asked questions I receive is how to boost my supply and if I know what the best protein powder for breastfeeding is. I always want to share ways to boost supply while eating healthy, wholesome foods. It seems that the biggest challenge for breastfeeding mothers is milk supply, energy, and lack of time to eat. I’ll address all of these below.

My number one piece of advice is to have a few SIMPLE healthy meals and snacks that you love (and make sure they’re packed with ingredients known to be good for milk production). It is so important to consume the foods that are known to be the best for breastfeeding women. Healthy fats are key, so I eat lots of avocado and nuts/nut butters. A very simple go-to meal that takes under 5 minutes to make is avocado toast. I buy a sprouted whole wheat bread and have 2 slices with an entire avocado mashed on top. If you have an extra few minutes add a fried or poached egg on top for some protein! Oatmeal is also quick and easy to make and oats happen to be one of the number one foods for boosting milk supply.

My favorite breakfast for boosting milk supply in a breastfeeding diet is a smoothie packed with essential nutrients. I make my smoothie very filling by packing it with healthy fat, protein and fiber, so it keeps me going until lunch. This smoothie also gives me tons of energy to keep up with a baby and toddler!

If you have a lack of time to eat (or have a baby who won’t let you put them down), then smoothies are a lifesaver because they take under 5 minutes to make (just throw the ingredients into a blender, pour into a glass and enjoy)!

I recently discovered Majka Nourishing Lactation Protein Powder, which is a DREAM for breastfeeding mothers. It has every single ingredient that you could ever want for boosting supply. I noticed a huge increase in my supply after only one morning of adding this protein powder into my smoothie. I created a recipe using the Majka Nourshing Lactation Protein Powder that I’m absolutely obsessed with – it’s seriously so delicious! It’s simple to make and most important is quick!! I shared the recipe below!

While this smoothie is the perfect meal if you’re breastfeeding, it’s also perfect if you’re pregnant! It’s packed with healthy fat, fiber and protein plus includes nutrient-rich fruits and veggies! The recipe requires only 5 ingredients and takes under 5 minutes to make from start to finish!

I also wanted to make sure I created a smoothie recipe that is easy on baby’s tummy. I only added ingredients that I don’t think would irritate a sensitive little tummy.

In addition to Majka’s Nourishing Lactation Protein Powder, they also have lactation bites or ‘cookies’ that give me an immediate boost in my milk supply if eaten an hour before pumping or nursing. I have a large supply in the morning hours, but come the afternoon I notice a decrease in supply, and that’s when it’s so important to have the baby take a in good, full feeding because you want them to sleep through the night! My solution has been to have one of Majka’s lactation cookies at around 3pm when I’m hungry for a snack anyway. Just one is pretty filling so it is the perfect healthy snack to hold me over until dinner. Since incorporating these lactation bites into my afternoon routine I’ve noticed a huge increase in my supply in the afternoon, and in turn, a happier and more satisfied baby. Honestly even if I wasn’t trying to boost my supply I’d eat these! They’re SO good!

These lactation bites are PACKED with the goods for increasing supply, such as oats, almonds, coconut, flax, fennel and fenugreek. All of these are superstar ingredients known to boost supply.

Majka Nourishing Lactation Protein Powder and Bites are vegan, soy free, gluten free and non-GMO. The products are plant-based and nutrient-dense. They’re also free from heavily processed whey protein, synthetics, and artificial sweeteners which is all so important to me.

The key ingredients in the Nourishing Lactation Protein Powder are an organic protein blend which incorporates six different vegetarian protein sources. In addition, there’s a lactation blend which counters mineral loss and boosts healthy lactation production soon after consumption. It also has a fruit and greens blend that contains over 25 fruit and veggies to keep you at your healthiest. The powder also has a digestive enzyme blend that helps break down foods in the digestive system to increase nutrient and protein absorption. Last but not least, the powder has a prebiotic and probiotic blend which boosts mother and baby’s immune systems, eliminates toxins, and has anti-inflammatory properties that fight against various disease. My favorite part is that it has 100% of your RDI of Methylfolate!

    1. I truly noticed such a HUGE increase in my supply after only a day of using the powder. I think it’s normal for there to be less in the afternoon vs the morning, but definitely increased it in the later hours 🙂
