Probiotic Yogurt Honey Spirulina Face Mask 769x1024 - Skin-Brightening Probiotic Yogurt, Honey & Spirulina Face Mask

With Mother’s Day quickly approaching (this Sunday) I’ve been thinking about how I can spend the day that will leave me feeling the most fulfilled and happy. This is my THIRD year celebrating Mother’s Day as a mom. Also, I’m due with another baby girl VERY shortly (she’s due towards the end May) and I’m still pinching myself that I’m going to be a mommy to TWO little girls 🙂

My ideal way to spend Mother’s Day would be to do something special with my daughter, mother and husband. I’m thinking a nice brunch at one of my favorite restaurants. I’m not usually a ‘brunch person’ – this is the only day of the year that I want to go out to brunch! Getting to celebrate my mom plus getting to spend the day with my daughter is honestly the most fulfilling.

In addition to spending the day with my mother and daughter I would like to do something nice for myself. I truly feel that when I take good care of myself and practice self-love it ultimately makes me a better mom. I find it so necessary to take some time to myself each week to be alone and do things that make me happy. My favorite way to spend my ‘me time’ is having an at-home spa session. I take a bubble bath, light candles, sip on tea and even treat myself to a hair and face mask. This form of self-love is a major part of my wellness routine that it so important to me. When I feel my best I’m also happier in life and able to give more to others, like my family.

Since I plan on having a luxurious at-home spa session on Mother’s Day, I recently created a new face mask that I have been obsessed with lately! There is no doubt in my mind that this easy DIY face mask is on the agenda for Mother’s Day. I love making my own face masks because I know the ingredients are clean and natural. You have to keep in mind that your skin soaks up whatever you put on it, so just like eating clean food, you want to only use products that are made with clean, non-toxic ingredients. There are so many toxic chemicals in most skincare products, so if I don’t make my own I’m very selective about the beauty products that I use.

This probiotic face mask contains three simple ingredients: raw Manuka honey, yogurt and spirulina. Manuka honey is the BEST for a glowing complexion because it evens skin tone and fights blemishes. Since honey has antibacterial properties, it helps reduce inflammation associated with common skin conditions. This mask is the best treatment for lightening dark spots, brightening skin tone, calming redness and irritation, cleansing the pores and soothing the skin! Raw honey is full of amino acids, B vitamins and dozens of vitamins and minerals, like Copper, Iron, Magnesium, Potassium and Zinc. Manuka honey has four times the nutritional content of normal flower honey and a higher level of enzymes, which works as an antibacterial. Since honey has antimicrobial, anti-fungal, and anti-inflammatory properties as well as being super moisturizing and restorative, it’s great for an ingredient in a homemade face mask.

As mentioned, using honey in this face mask is incredible for your skin! However, you want to be selective about the type of honey you use. When honey is processed using techniques like pasteurization or filtering, the nutrients are removed in the process. You want to make sure you’re using an organic, raw, unpasteurized, unfiltered honey, which is why I love Wedderspoon honey. For this mask I used their K Factor 16 Raw Manuka Honey. Wedderspoon Manuka is raw, non-GMO verified and every jar is sourced, packed and sealed in New Zealand, making it high-quality and completely authentic.

Now you see when I’m obsessed with using raw Manuka honey as an ingredient in my face mask. I also love using yogurt in my face masks. When applied to the skin, yogurt also has many benefits, such as being anti-aging and exfoliating! Yogurt contains lactic acid, which is an alpha hydroxy acid that helps to smooth rough, dry skin. It also helps to prevent fine lines, wrinkles and age spots. Lactic acid helps to dissolve dead skin that accumulates in the pores, as well as helping to shrink large pores. It’s also known to help heal acne blemishes. Yogurt naturally kills impurities that lead to breakouts, keeping the skin fresh and clean.

In addition to the honey and yogurt being incredible for your face, this mask also contains spirulina, which is known to fight free radicals, brighten the skin and will help reduce the appearance of fine lines. Spirulina is rich in vitamin A, B12, calcium, iron, phosphorus and amino acids which are all important for a glowing complexion. Spirulina is also known to facilitate faster cell turnover in order to help skin heal quickly.

As you can see, honey, yogurt and spiruilna are all so amazing for your skin and you’re going to love the effects of this mask! Lately I’ve noticed dark spots appearing on my face, especially on my cheeks, which is common during pregnancy. This mask has definitely helped to brighten my skin and I plan on doing it after pregnancy as well until the dark spots vanish! I’m so excited for you to try this mask – let me know if you think it improved your skin tone and texture!
