Genius Ways to Sneak Veggies into a Toddler’s Diet

There are so many creative ways to sneak veggies into your child’s foods. My favorite ways are in a smoothie, sauces, dips, baked goods, etc, and the Ninja Smart Screen Blender DUO with FreshVac Technology is my secret weapon!

Let me preface this by saying that I’m grateful that my toddler eats SOME veggies without having to ‘sneak them in’. She happens to love broccoli, cauliflower and carrots (all steamed). She also loves sweet potatoes. She also enjoys cucumber dipped in hummus. Aside from those veggies, there’s no way she’s eating spinach, kale, beets, celery (and any other veggie I did not name above). However, I do ensure she eats tons of veggies by sneaking the ones she won’t eat on her own into her food.

Add veggies into a smoothie:

The number one way to sneak veggies in is in a smoothie. If I add a bit of fruit to the smoothie, then she’ll never taste the veggies in there. I often add spinach, kale, beets, zucchini, carrots, celery and cauliflower into her smoothies without her ever tasting them. As long as there’s about a 1/2 cup of fruit she’s happy.

I recently got a Ninja Smart Screen Blender DUO with FreshVac Technology. FreshVac Technology is an advanced technology that removes oxygen prior to blending. When you remove oxygen prior to blending it locks in vitamins and nutrients as well as creating an ultra-fresh taste. The result is a silky-smooth texture with less foam and separation. It even stays fresh overnight! The FreshVac Technology truly makes such a difference in the quality of my smoothies, dips and drinks. It’s versatile and so easy to use!

Emma loves the vibrant color of the smoothie (thanks to the FreshVac Technology). While Emma loves the color, I’m thrilled about the extra vitamins and nutrients she’s getting (also thanks to the FreshVac Technology). She loves sipping on a smoothie as part of her breakfast, or as an afternoon snack to hold her over until dinner. It’s such an added bonus for me that I know she’s drinking lots of veggies in the process 🙂

Add veggies into a stir-fry:

Another idea for sneaking in veggies is adding them into a stir-fry. I generally add tons of spinach and mushrooms into a stir-fry and they wilt into teensy tiny pieces, so Emma doesn’t even notice them. I always use a flavorful sauce as well.

Add veggies into dips:

Another great way to sneak veggies in is by adding them into dips. Beet hummus is one of my favorites to make and she loves dipping her crackers into the hummus. You can also make carrot or sweet potato hummus. You simply follow a hummus recipe, but add in about 1/2 cup of the steamed veggies. I love using my Ninja Blender DUO with FreshVac technology to make hummus and dips because they stay fresher for longer.

Add veggies into muffins and baked goods:

Another genius way to sneak veggies in is by adding them into homemade muffins. When making muffins you have your wet ingredients and your dry ingredients. Simply add all the wet ingredients required in the recipe into a blender (I love using the Ninja), then blend it with a handful of spinach. Then pour the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients (already blended with the spinach) and call them ‘green muffins’! It works every time! Other muffins she loves are carrot cake muffins and zucchini bread muffins. You simply grate the carrots or zucchini and add them into the batter prior to baking.

Add veggies into sauces:

The final way I sneak veggies in is blending/pureeing them into her sauces. For example, blending butternut squash and/or carrots (both already steamed or roasted) into her macaroni and cheese sauce. I simply make the cheese sauce (milk, butter, cheese etc. and then just blend it with the steamed veggies). She never knows!

FreshVac Technology from Ninja has really changed the way I make and enjoy smoothies, dips and more – and now it’s changing the way Emma does, as well. My smoothies have more nutrients and less separation, which enhances the flavor and look of our smoothies, making my life easier and Emma’s diet more nutritious and delicious. What are your favorite ways to sneak veggies into your kid’s diet? I’d love to know!!
