Vegan Matcha Hemp Mylk
This delicious homemade matcha hemp mylk is packed with superfoods! It’s vegan and nut-free too! Since it’s nut-free it doesn’t require any soaking like traditional nut milks. This mylk is high in protein, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins and antioxidants.
Nut ‘mylks’ used to just be for vegans or people with a lactose intolerance, but more and more people who aren’t vegan or lactose-intolerant are switching to dairy-free milks. I’m not dairy-free, however I only drink vegan ‘milk’.
Hemp mylk is easy to make because, as mentioned above, unlike nut mylks it doesn’t need to be soaked overnight. Hemp seeds are a great source of omega-3 fatty acids, protein, essential amino acids, calcium, potassium, phosphorous, vitamin A and magnesium. I added matcha for a healthy pick-me-up plus I love the taste that the matcha adds. This recipe is completely free of refined sugars as I used dates to sweeten the mylk. I also added a touch of pink sea salt which added a nice flavor.
Speaking of minimal ingredients… below are the only ingredients used and I’m going to break down the health benefits of each:
Hemp Seeds: Hemp seeds are an amazing source of digestible plant-based protein and help to ease inflammation in the body. They provide essential fatty acids, may help to boost the immune system and promote clear vibrant skin.
Matcha: Matcha is high in antioxidants and helps to detoxify the body. It is also known to boost memory and concentration. It contains caffeine, but unlike coffee, there is no crash after. Made by finely grinding whole green tea leaves, matcha is used to boost energy and metabolism, while also calming our mood, focusing the mind and cleansing the body. It is rich in chlorophyll, antioxidants, and the polyphenol EGCg known for its cancer fighting and DNA damage-reversing properties.
Dates: Dates are naturally sweet, so are the perfect addition to sweeten this milk. They are known for their essential mineral content such as calcium, copper, magnesium and iron. They are loaded with fiber and may help to lower cholesterol and prevent colon cancer. Dates are full of potassium, which is important for improving heart health and blood flow, so increasing potassium means you can get more energy from the food you eat.
Pink Sea Salt: Pink sea salt can help to balance hormones, create electrolyte balance, increases hydration, balances pH, prevents muscle cramping and aids in proper metabolism functioning. It adds great flavor to this mylk.
Since this mylk is healthy, tasty and requires very minimal ingredients to make, you definitely need to try it! It’s the perfect thing to drink on its own, or tastes great with oatmeal or used as the base of a smoothie.
